Barcelona 2019

We finished our weekend break in Prague and took a flight from Prague to Barcelona to spend Christmas there. This was our first ever Christmas away from home and definitely a new experience for us! We stayed in a large Airbnb in Placa de les caramelles, just round the corner to La Rambla strip and a close walk to the marina and the beach, with Lee's family. The apartment was quirky and spacious and plenty big enough for us all although quite dated and not particularly cosy. We couldn't have Christmas day without a Christmas dinner so we put the Christmas music on and cooked a Roast dinner in the apartment which was challenging due to the old gas oven and the hob not fully working but we got there in the end and it turned out well (although the apple pie did just burn).

On our first evening here we took a walk to the Marina which was about 20 minutes away (walking) to surprise Lee's Auntie as we had arrived for her birthday. We had a lovely meal here and then headed back to the apartment.

We woke up the next morning and decided to walk to Sagrada Família Basilica which was an hours walk away and stop to see some sights along the way. We didn't go inside the cathedral as there was a massive queue but it was amazing to look at from the outside. After a long day of walking we didnt want to go anywhere far for dinner so thought we would check out the bar at the bottom of the apartments, Tosca del Carme, for dinner and we loved it! There was a nice vibe in there, the staff were friendly and the food was great with a wid selection of tapas - cooked perfectly! They even had a nice little outdoor area you could sit in to eat/drink and watch the world go by. It was so nice we ended up visiting here every day for drinks and had food here a couple of times.

Our apartment was just across the road from Boqueria Market which is a large food market selling everything from fresh fruit and veg to seafood. We purchased some of the items for our Christmas dinner from here and the food was top quality. It is very busy here but worth the trip.

The only thing i would say about choosing Barcelona for Christmas is that it does not feel very Christmassy. It is not a big celebration out there by the looks of things as it wasn't massively decorated and most shops, bars, restaurants etc were open on Christmas day unlike England.
