On 20th December 2019 we flew from our local airport (Southend) for a winter city break to Prague. Its so easy flying from Southend as it is only a 5 minute drive from my house making it so quick to get away for the weekend.
After a short flight we landed in Prague and was greeted by our transfers that we booked online here. They were well organised and professional and worked out a great price for us. We then headed to our hotel Design Hotel Neruda which is right by prague castle. The hotel was very boutique feeling and cozy. Location wise it was a 20 minute downhill walk to the old town square and the hustle and bustle so you was just out of the busy zone but we were along a strip of nice restaurants and snack bars. The town is beautiful and picturesque with cobble streets and classic buildings. If we went back we would probably stay closer to Old town square as the uphill walk back to the hotel was a bit of a hike (but think of the calories burned).
As we went over the festive period the old town square was filled with Christmas markets with all the mulled wine you could hope for! it was very pretty and Christmassy - perfect to get you into the spirit!
When we booked the airport transfers we were provided with a link for some free walking tours. I couldn't recommend these enough! Our guide was brilliant - showing us all of the sites as providing us with the history and facts on each site. He was very knowledgeable and made the experience enjoyable. We booked the Prague castle and Charles bridge tour for the first day and then the Old town and Jewish Quarter for the second day (lots of walking but so worth it)
On our first night we stopped at a local restaurant down the road from our hotel which was lovely. If you like pork you have to try the pork knuckle (although it is HUGE!) We really enjoyed the local food.
If you like steak we found an amazing steak house called the Crazy Cow and I had my favourite meal of the holiday - it was delicious and cooked to perfection! We then headed to Crazy Daisy for cocktails. They looked amazing but it's a shame I couldn't say that about the taste!!
We also managed to find a fab Irish bar whilst there called the Dubliner which was so much fun. The boys were happy as it played the football and in the evenings they had a live band. We made friends with a few groups of people in there and had a brilliant night dancing away. The bars are so quirky as they're build underground on different levels.
On the last full day we booked a massage and 'spa' experience in the hotel. The massage was lovely but I wouldn't really call it a spa. It's a private room with a whirlpool bath and a sauna and the massage therapist sets his table up in the room to massage you.
After this we had booked to go shooting but cancelled it last minute as time was going to be tight and went to see more of the city instead before our walking tour. We stopped in the hard rock cafe for lunch and then walked up to the top of the clock tower to see the views of Prague.
Overall we absolutely loved Prague and i would recommend it to anyone wanting a fun weekend away!
