The Lake District 2015

When me and Lee were first dating, he decided to treat me to a weekend away to the Lake District.

He picked me up from work at lunchtime (I took a half day at work) and we continued to drive from Essex all the way down to Cumbria. We had plenty to keep us entertained on the way up there, enjoying each others company, singing along to music and being silly.

Typical for us there was an awful lot of traffic and it took us a long time to get there (we missed dinner at our B&B and all restaurants were shut so off to the co-op we went for sandwiches).

As we were driving through the Lake District to our B&B, we were stunned by the views! You wouldn't believe this was our home country - its so beautiful!

Our first evening here was a pretty short one here due to the traffic so we had a few drinks in the B&B bar and headed to bed ready for a day at go ape on Saturday.

When we got up on Saturday morning we had our breakfast at the B&B and then went for a little wander around the village to see the local sights. We took a little drive out to a river in Windermere that was a perfect photo spot!

If you have never been to Go Ape! I would definitely recommend it - it's so much fun! You get to spend a few hours up in the trees like monkeys (or Tarzan - whichever you'd prefer to be). You have a safety harness provided at the start of the activity and then you have to climb up into the trees by rope ladders and there is an adventure course once you are up there, from zip lines, to high rope obstacles it is certainly a good way to keep fit and challenge yourself. We did book in to do the segways after this session but the ropes took a lot longer than we expected, so we missed our slot and was too hungry to wait for the next one, so we just got our money back and headed back to the b&b to shower and have dinner.

We found a local restaurant that were serving Tomahawk steak. What I didn't realise was the size of this steak and when it came out on my plate I was stunned as to how massive this dinner had become (This was now a challenge to eat it - like man vs food - as it was so delicious).

After we got back to the B&B Saturday night, we were having such a lovely time that we decided to stay an extra night. We got up Sunday morning and took our bikes down to a local cycling route (when we got there we soon learnt this was all uphill and very tiring so we didn't complete the full route). After the bike ride we decided to treat ourselves to a spa day at Low Wood Bay. The facilities there were really nice, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and ice shower and an outdoor Jacuzzi looking over the lake with some stunning views.

If you're planning a romantic weekend getaway in England and like walking around and being active I would definitely recommend the Lake District to anyone!
