My family and I travelled to Malaysia for Easter 2013.
We first stopped for a week in Kuala Lumpur which is a busy city environment. It was very hot with no beaches. KL was pretty to look at with the Patronas Twin Towers right around the corner from our hotel.
The only downside to our hotel was that the pool was an indoor pool by day, sky bar by night and the local park did not allow sunbathing. If you wanted to splash off in the water in the park you had to keep all clothes on (you were also meant to accompany a child so we got some funny looks wading through the water).
There was however a water park that we spent the day at which was fun with lots to do!
Whilst in Malaysia, we met up with some friends from England (they are Malaysian but worked in our local Chinese where my dad delivered food). They took us to their home to meet their family and we went out for a traditional Malaysian meal which was delicious. If ever you go to Malaysia, find a local taxi driver and ask them to take you somewhere that they would eat and ask him to help you choose some dishes (nothing is in English) and you will not be disappointed. It was also very cheap for a meal and drinks.
They took us to the top of the viewing tower to see KL from above. The view was pretty cool!
After our time in Kuala Lumpur came to an end we caught a flight to Penang to enjoy the rest of our holiday by the beach. Our hotel backed onto the sand where we could have horse rides along the beach as well as parasailing which was an experience although not the most comfortable thing ever!
Our hotel was lovely and with a swim up bar and meditation pool. It was reasonably quiet there which made it very relaxing lounging around the pool with a book in hand.
We met with our Malaysian friends here again and they took us to see the temples and the monkeys. It was a fun day out being tourists with plenty to see and lots of walking but it was very hot. We finished the day with dinner and drinks.
We also took a trip to the top on Penang hill on a very steep train journey. The views when we got to the top were amazing and the ride itself was certainly an experience you wouldn't forget!
Malaysia is a superb country with lots to see and do and I would recommend anyone to go and visit there for themselves!
